Ladakh Monasteries Tour- Experience The Buddhist Wonders

Hemis Gompa: It is the largest monastery of Ladakh that was built in 1630 and is located at a distance of about 45 km south of Leh. The largest Thangka painting is also placed here. Namgyal Tsemo Gompa: Namgyal monastery is very popular for the three story high statue of Lord Buddha and here one can also see the collection of ancient manuscripts and frescoes. The breathtaking view of Leh simply enchants the senses.

Sankar Gompa: There is a huge statue of Avalokiteshvara (the Buddhist deity of compassion) placed in this monastery. It has 1000 arms and 1000 heads and is very lavish and splendid.

Likir Monastery: Founded in 11th century AD Likir is located at about 52 km from Leh. It houses a large clay image of Lord Buddha and many ancient manuscripts. One can see some interesting collections of thankas, old religious and domestic costumes and implements in this monastery.

Phugtal Gompa: It is located at the mouth of a huge cave from where a tributary of Lungnak River flows. Phugtal is the most secluded monastery of Zanskar and was established in the 12th century. The walls and ceiling of this monastery is decorated with beautiful frescos reflecting the traditional Indian arts.
